At the origin of the project, some twenty volunteers with different backgrounds and sensibilities come together to create a film festival. Driven by the desire to promote cinematographic works featuring gay and lesbian characters and themes and by broadcasting French and foreign films unknown to the distribution and exploitation channels, the Grenoble International Festival of Gay and Lesbian Film sees The day in March 2001.
The aim of this 1901 non-profit association is to organize a Gay and Lesbian Film Festival every year in Grenoble (France): «Views from the front».
While the distribution of films rarely distributed in France is the raison d’être of the festival, it also wants to contribute to the evolution of mentalities in the recognition and respect of differences by demanding programming, by the visibility of its communication and by Limiting its audience to the homosexual community.
Opposite views has found its place in the Grenoble cultural landscape with the support of public and private grantors as well as film professionals. Every year, for a week, a wide panorama of cinematographic works is visible in theaters. It is a convivial week, conducive to exchanges between the organizing team, festival-goers, and professionals.
Each edition of Vues d’opposite brings together more than 2,000 spectators and features 20 feature films and as many short films from around the world, translated and subtitled by the artist when they are unpublished.
A few years after the creation of Vues d’opposite, proposals for cinematographic works addressing homosexualities remain marginal despite some successes for the general public and the creation of Lesbian Gay Bi Trans festivals.
That’s why, Vues d ‘en face is busy scheduling a large number of films off the beaten path, and feeds its approach of opening by wanting to associate ever wider audiences.
